

Sandy was born in Oakridge, TN, on December 9, 1945. He graduated from West High School in Knoxville, TN, and subsequently enlisted in the Navy in 1963. Serving aboard the USS Oriskany (CVA-34), which now rests as an artificial reef off the coast of Pensacola, FL, Sandy dedicated himself to our country.
Following his military service, Sandy utilized the GI Bill to pursue a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee (Go Volunteers!). He embarked on a distinguished career in the Chemical Industry with DuPont, where he undertook various roles. A significant highlight of his professional journey was overseeing the construction of the Kuan Yin Titanium Dioxide plant in Taipei, Taiwan, where he later served as plant manager.
Upon retirement, Sandy found joy in motorcycle tours with the Texas Hill Country Chapter of the Harley Owners Group. He subsequently became an instructor for Rider's Edge at Javelina Harley-Davidson, sharing his passion for motorcycling with new enthusiasts.
In recent years, Sandy devoted himself to personal development through fitness and healthy living. Actively involved in the Good Shepherd community in Charlotte, NC since 2019, he participated in the Men's Group and Re:generation, ultimately becoming a Re:generation Leader. A dedicated learner, he self-taught computer programming using Python and documented his life's journey on his personal website.
Sandy was preceded in death by his parents: Richard Sanford Quinn, Sr., Dorothy Dodson Milligan, and Lillian Harvey Quinn, as well as his son, Richard Yates Quinn (survived by wife, Nicole).
He is survived by his wife, DeLana Quinn; his children, Jerry Majors Patterson (husband, Ken) and Thomas Majors; and his cherished grandson, Jackson Quinn. Additionally, he leaves behind cousins, Beth Yaekle (husband, Gary) and Melissa Gill-Ownby (husband, Skip).
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Good Shepherd Church, located at 13110 Moss Road, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to Good Shepherd Church.
