Rich was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 13, 1959, the youngest of five children. He attended Thomas More High School where he learned many things including the bass violin. After high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served four years at McCord AFB in Washington state as a tactical air craft maintenance specialist. He was honorably discharged and attended ITT Technical Institute. He worked in Milwaukee, Chicago and then moved to Charlotte in 1984. His career continued at TIAA as a critical (data) facilities engineer for 17 years before retiring.
He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Neil Diamond, Star Wars, Fiddler On The Roof, his garden and beer. He enjoyed electronic equipment even so far as installing by himself a robotic lawn cutting system. Rich had a unique sense of humor. He liked to design his own Halloween costumes especially the grasshopper with six moveable legs and green skin.
But one of his only major dislikes was brussel sprouts. Even though his nieces and nephews were all living on other places he loved them dearly. Rich loved his country, America. He was a proud patriot.
Special thanks to Rich’s friends George Cooke and Ron Heafner for being there for Rich and his family when they were in need.
Thank you to Deacon Carlos Medina for praying for Rich and family and the kind staff at McEwen Funeral Services in Charlotte.
Services will be held in Milwaukee, WI with inurnment at the VA Cemetery in Union Grove, WI with military honors in Spring 2022.
