Bob Jackson, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the late evening on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. He was born December 19, 1929 in New York City.
He was the loving husband and best friend of Elizabeth J. Jackson for over 52 years.
Bob grew up in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, graduating from Hellertown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Penn State University. Bob worked for the Navy Department for some years and for the remainder of his career was in Sales and Management in mutual funds and insurance in the Washington, D.C. area. He earned numerous awards and distinctions during his career. After retirement, Bob and Betty lived in Ocean City, Maryland on the Assawoman Bay just blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, which he dearly loved. In 2006, Bob and Betty moved to Charlotte, NC to be closer to their daughter and her family.
Bob had a way of not only lighting up a room but also filling it with joy and humor. His desire to share the good news of his Lord and Savior’s love and saving grace was evident. Bob didn’t miss an opportunity to hand out what he called a “love letter” which described what Jesus has done for every person if they will accept him, to anyone from the clerk at the grocery store, to the waitress at a restaurant, and even the nurse in the Emergency Room in his final days. Bob also had a recent birthday card greeting ministry where he would write notes and include personalized scriptures to his Church congregation. Bob rested in the knowledge that his children and grandchildren know the Lord and are God’s children.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary Ann Gyecsek Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jean Jackson, of Charlotte, NC; his daughter Laura Lynn Looker and husband Andrew T. Looker, Sr., grandson Andrew T. Looker, Jr., of Matthews, NC; son Robert E. Jackson and wife Melanie S. Jackson and granddaughter, Hannah L. Jackson of Front Royal, Virginia. He is also survived by his aunt Anna Banko of Easton, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Lucy O’Bryhim of Leonardtown, Maryland; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family invites guests for visitation from 10:00am – 11:00am on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014, followed by Bob’s Celebration of Live Service at 11:00a.m. at the McEwen–Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Weddington Building Fund, 348 Providence Road South, Weddington, NC 28173.
