Charlotte Robert Lee “Sarge” Bowden Robert Bowden, 79, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at his residence. A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 with a funeral service to follow at Noon at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Robert was born August 29, 1933 in Mecklenburg County to the late Herbert and Beulah Hubbard McDowell. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars in the 8th Infantry Regiment where he received a Bronze Medal and retired as First Sergeant. Robert also retired from the Post Office. Between his time in the army and his service with the Post Office, he gave 51 years of service to the government where he got his nickname “Sarge”. He also enjoyed playing golf and was quite the pro at it and was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a very giving heart. Sarge is survived by his loving wife Marlene Bowden; sons; Robert Lee Thompson and wife Gladys, Chris Bowden and wife Teresa, Josh Bowden; daughters; Andrea Cobb and husband Steven, Devon DeCaro and husband John, JoLynn Bowden; grandchildren; Alexis Cobb, Takeya Toppin and husband Edwin, Thamisha Lamberth.
