Born in Columbus, Ohio, Bill was the only child of the late Dwight and Esther Gardner. Bill was an avid golfer and played for the Upper Arlington Golden Bears high school team. He went on to The Ohio State University where he earned BSIE degree (‘57) and, later, an MBA (‘63). While in college, Bill met Sally who would become his wife in June of 1957.
Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1958 through 1960, and he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bill and Sally returned to Ohio where they started their family, and Bill began his career in contract warehousing and physical distribution management. He was a mentor to many in business and life, and he reveled in helping others succeed.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Karen.
Bill is survived by his wife Sally; two sons, Steve (Brennan) of New London, NC, and Doug (Kelly) of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Maggie, Nick, Thomas (Sabina), Kate (Evan), Ryan (Stephanie) and Will; and four great-grandchildren, Kai, Isaac, Sienna and Theodore.
His family asks that you celebrate his life by playing a round of golf with your friends and family or perhaps setting sail for a new adventure.
