

Robert Gardner, 68, of Mount Holly, NC, died October 14, 2013 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, November 3 at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte.Born in Durham, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Louise Gardner, his wife, Sue, and his brother, Landon Gardner.
He is survived by his brother, William Gardner, of Raleigh; nephew Greg Gardner and wife Caroline of Crisp; nephew Eric Gardner and wife Dorothy of Knightdale; great nephews Eli and Aaron Gardner, and great niece Charlotte Gardner of Knightdale; and sister-in-law Joyce McKenzie of Coppell, Texas.
A 1967 graduate of Appalachian State University, Robert was Mathematics Chairman and beloved teacher at Myers Park High School for 39 years. He is described as a supportive mentor for teachers as well as students. Robert was an avid sports fan of Myers Park, as well as a loyal Panther fan for 20 years. He also volunteered at the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville.
A lifelong educator, Bob was also a member of the Lake Norman Sail and Power Squadron. He served in numerous positions, instructed Public Boating Classes, and launched the Instructor Development and Certification Program required for all Public Boating instructors. Upon reaching his 25th Merit mark in 2012, Bob was recognized as a “life member” of the United States Power Squadron. The members of Lake Norman Sail and Power Squadron will forever miss their “favorite teacher.”
