Robert, 82 - who was known as Bob and often affectionally as “Bobby” was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1940 to Bessie Cohen and Jack Isser. Bob moved with his family to Miami Beach, Florida when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1958 and later attended the University of Miami. During high school, he spent summers working as a cabana boy at the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami which were some of his fondest memories.
Bob moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1965 where he built his textile businesses Sidney Gilbert and Company and Gilco Fabrics. He worked until he retired in 2019. Although retired, he remained active with his many other business investments.
Over the course of many decades, Bob always looked forward to his daily breakfast meetings with his friends. He was a supportive member of Temple Israel and enjoyed his many family trips to Charleston South Carolina and Miami Beach over the last several decades.
Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 40 years Linda, and his two daughters Sheryl Amster (Tom) and Jodie Paret (Alexander). He was a doting grandfather to Jakob Amster, Alex Amster, Chelsea Amster, Isabella Paret, and Emerson Paret who all adored their Papa. Bob was a loving big brother to his two sisters, Linda Friedman and Edie Shapiro.
Bob’s influence of love and friendship impacted many around him and he will always be remembered for his kindness, optimism and generosity. As he would often say, “it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood”.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 29th at 10:00am at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road in Charlotte. Immediately Following will be graveside service at Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
