Robert Louis Young Sr., of Charlotte, North Carolina, peacefully transitioned into his eternal home on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on January 3, 1947 ; He was 78 years old.
Robert was the oldest son of the late Samuel Lee Young Sr. and Sadie Bell Washington Young. He was the second child of 14 siblings. As the oldest brother he held this role with pride and deep responsibility throughout his life as the “Big Brother” of the family.
A proud graduate of Sterling High School in Pineville, NC, Robert continued his education at Central Piedmont Community College and later studied accounting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also served his country with honor, enlisting in the United States Army Reserve from 1977-1981. During his period of service he received the (ARLOM) Army Commendation Medal and the rank of Staff Sergeant, having started as a Specialist 5.
Robert’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. He began his career at Cone Mill in Pineville and spent over two decades with General Tire/Continental in Charlotte, NC, as a tire assembler. He earned multiple accolades, including an impressive perfect attendance record for 20 years before retiring from the company in 1989.
Robert was deeply rooted in his spiritual faith as a Baptist. In his youth, he was a former member of Saint Mark AME Zion. He later joined Silver Mount Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in numerous capacities as a member of the Glimpse of Hope Choir, Men’s Club of Silver Mount, the Usher Board Chorus and Usher Board. He later became a member of the Silver Mount Baptist Church Trustee Board.
Robert had a passion for baseball, proudly supporting the Atlanta Braves, and a love for fine automobiles, especially Lincolns and Cadillacs. He loved and spent many hours fishing before and after retiring.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, steadfast faith, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
Robert was preceded in death by six siblings: Reatha Knighton, Evelyn Young Grant, Alice Pearl Mangum, Zada Gonsan, Sandra Elaine, and Preston Young.
Robert L. Young is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Patricia Young; his sons Robert L. Young Jr. (Lorette) and Patrick D. Young (Shari). He is cherished by his grandchildren Ryan, Lauren , Layla, Ryler, and Paige and God grand-daughter Alaya who lovingly called him “Grandpa”. His beloved siblings: Atyeb Al (Martha), Glenda Carithers (Clarence), Lola Reese (Don), Samuel Young Jr., Ross Young (Cindy), James Lyndell (Tina), and Marvin Young, Brother-in -laws: Rev. Hazel Potts, James Hardin, Moses R. Grant; three Sister-in-laws: Kim Young, Betty Holloway, Lestina Potts; one Special aunt, Aunt Mary Lee Green, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members and friends.
