

Roger was born on October 8, 1948 to the late George Cook Lawing and Louise Watts Lawing in Mount Holly, NC. Roger graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1966 where he enjoyed playing football & basketball. Roger then enlisted in the US Army, serving his Country in Korea.
Roger retired from the United States Postal Service in Greensboro, NC in 2012. Since his retirement, he has been enjoying life with his wife, Faye, residing half the year with his feet in the sand and the salt air in his face at Carolina Beach, NC. The other half of the year, Roger was dedicated to attending every sporting event or choral concert his grandkids had. He truly enjoyed watching them compete. Roger was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie of his golfing buddies. Roger was a kind spirited man who never met a stranger. He loved walking his two dogs, Taco & Sophie, around his neighborhood, stopping frequently to speak to neighbors.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Faye Walton Lawing, as well as his step daughter, Staci Jacobs, son-in-law, Jason Jacobs & two grandchildren, Brian Jacobs & Sydney Jacobs of Charlotte, NC. Roger is survived by his only sibling, Larry Lawing & his wife, Bobbie Lawing of Greensboro & two nephews, Lane Lawing & Lyle Lawing.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. A graveside service will be held at Floral Garden Cemetery in High Point, NC on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 1 pm.
A special thanks to the compassionate staff at the Levine Dickson House for providing such great care and dignity to Roger in the final days of his life.
