Lee was born on June 16, 1938, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles and Sophie Morosky. She attended Villa Maria Academy Catholic girls school in Erie, where a career day her sophomore year sparked an interest in travel and the aviation industry. After high school, she went on to work for Allegheny Airlines (now US Airways), where she was able to combine her love of working with people with traveling the world. Some of her favorite travel locations were Ireland, London, Hawaii, and New York. She also met her future husband, Mike, who worked at the same airport.
Work eventually moved Lee and her family to Greenville, South Carolina, where she retired from the airlines in 1990. In retirement, she volunteered for St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church, played lots of golf, and spent time cheering for her children on the baseball and softball fields. She loved dogs, decorating and caring for her home, sweets (she never met a licorice and or gummy candy she didn’t like), and cooking (she was known for her Polish Christmas cookies and potato pancakes). Most especially, she loved her grandkids. She was always the first one on the floor with them to play dolls, restaurant, or anything they could dream up. She would always be up for reading a book, playing a game, or providing a snack, and they loved her dearly for it.
Lee is survived by her son, Thomas McClellan of Rock Hill, SC; her daughter, Rebecca McClellan Smith (Allen) of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughters Michele Riggle (Matt) of State College, PA; Melissa Ludden (Jim) of Fairfax, VA; sister Rita Trott of Fredericksburg, TX; five grandchildren, Rachel, Brendan, Michael, Mabel, and Frances; and her beloved grand-dogs, Frankie, Gracie, and Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Michael McClellan; her parents; and the many rescue dogs she had provided a loving home to over the years.
At this time, a private ceremony will be held on Thursday for immediate family. A Celebration of Life for friends and extended family will be held on a later date.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the ASPCA, the Humane Society of Charlotte, or the American Cancer Society.
