Ruby was a wife and mother who was very active in the women's right's movement. She was the past President of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte, one of the original members. In the latter part of life she was a member of St. Paul UMC where she had many friends. She and her fellow widows would travel to the beach twice a year for fellowship and a good game of Shanghai Rummy.
A life-long practicer of Transcendental Meditation and Yoga. She was also a gifted painter.
She served three terms as an elected official as a Water Conservation District Supervisor for Mecklenburg County.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Seniors helping Seniors staff Tressina, Martha, Barbara and Neil who all became friends to her and her family that provided her with comfort and care.
The family would also like to thank our friends who did so many things to make her life better.
This past year, she was admitted to the hospital and then to Pavilion Healthcare Center where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband John S. Gardiner, Jr; sister Peggy B Drach; brother George (Bud) Blessing. She is survived by her son John S Gardiner III, PhD (Diane); daughter Patricia E Gardiner (Phil Murray); grandchildren Chris Gardiner, Suzanne Mahar, Jill Gardiner, Shane Smith; six great grandchildren.
All services will be private at the families request.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friendship Trays, Charlotte Rescue Mission, Arthritis Foundation and Sedgefield UMC.
