

Ruth was born in the Croft community of Mecklenburg County on March 29, 1920, the daughter of Luren and Grace Wiggins. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Moffatt Beard, her son, Donald Paul Beard, parents, brothers Bill and Calvin Wiggins, and sister Kathleen Wiggins Bustle. As a young woman, Ruth worked for Woolworth’s Department Store and Duke Power. She and Robert Beard were married over 50 years and lived at their home on Statesville Road most of their married life.
Ruth retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System after 25 years working at Ranson Middle School. She was a dedicated homemaker, loved to sew, garden, cook and bake. She especially enjoyed entertaining and having friends and family over for a meal. She was a devoted member of her church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a lifetime member of Women of the Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and was member of the Alma Wallace Sunday School Class.
Ruth and Robert had the first reunion of Robert’s World War II 3482nd Ordnance Company in their home which began a 50-year tradition.
She is survived by her sisters Ruby Little, Hazel Barnette, Lorraine (Suggie) Christenbury; son, Wayne Beard and daughter, Vicki Beard Robbins all of Charlotte and their spouses; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Brent Beard, Jessica Beard Sangutei, Kathryn Beard, Kerri Beard Corbitt, Kirk Beard, Steve Robbins and Mark Robbins; 12 great-grandchildren, Emma Beard, Addie Beard, Grier and Ian Beard, Mikayla Adams, Keegan Adams, Kaylee Beard, Christine Robbins, Morgan Robbins, Emily Robbins, Mattie Robbins and Seth Robbins.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10-11 am at Prosperity Presbyterian Church with the service immediately following at 11am. Reverend Kenneth Craig is officiating.
