

She was born on the 25th of November, 1940 to the late Reverend Dexter E. Couch, Sr. and Grace Miller Couch. A 1959 graduate of Hickory High School (Claremont Central High School) and then attended Lenior Rhyne College. After college, she went to work for the Federal Reserve in Charlotte, NC, where she met the love of her life, Paul C. Chambers, Jr. She later worked with Adding Machine Service and PC Jackson Plumbing.
Ruth was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Shallotte. She loved spending time with family and friends, volunteering as a PTA Mom with her children, gardening – which she referred to as “playing in the dirt”, sewing, loving on her cats, crafts, shopping, watching Hallmark Movies, HGTV and DIY projects around the house. She also loved her “sweets”.
The Chambers family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, the 31st of March, 2025 at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West. A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
She is survived by her three children: Charlene Bradley and her husband, Geno of Spartanburg, SC; Michelle Watson and her husband, Jeff of Cramerton, NC and Paul C. Chambers, III and his wife, Yvonne of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Taylor Simmons (Landon), Mason Chambers, Grayson Chambers, Justin Bolin ( Alisha) and Savannah Donaldson (Chris) and five great grandchildren and the soon to be born, Baby Simmons; sister, Patricia Bain and brother, Eugene Couch.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul C. Chambers, Jr. and a sister, Elaine Hefner.
Memorials may be made in memory of Ruth to Gentiva Hospice Spartanburg, SC and/or Compassass Hospice Gaffney, SC.
