Ruth & I first met in high school. When I saw her I thought that she was the most beautiful girl that I had ever seen. Of course I had no idea that she even knew who I was.
While building courage to approach her, a friend told me that she wanted me to call her. The evening that I finally dared and she answered the phone my heart felt like it would explode. Near the end of the call she had declined to go out with me...but then she said "wait."
And then we spent nearly seven decades side by side, every moment we could.
We dated for little more than one year then eloped to South Carolina and truly became one.
Shortly after being married, I joined the u.s. Air Force, after training I was sent to Germany, within 30 days Ruth joined me.
We've gone through "thick and thin," but Ruth has always had my back. We would often fight but you had better not do anything to hurt me...she was pretty fierce.
We were fortunate to have 4 outstanding children, (1 son that we lost shortly after birth) 6 grandchildren, & 1 great grandchild.
We were both EXTREME Animal Lovers. We had many fantastic Dogs, Cats, Birds, Fish, and a Rabbit. They became our family. ROXXY, my baby now, became so much comfort for Ruth.
Ruth was out shopping when she saw a lady carrying a small really cute dog. Ruth as always had to walk up to see this baby. Sort of joking, Ruth said "can I have her?" The lady said yes and "God Bless You".
Roxxy has not left her side. I always felt this lady was an Angel bringing Roxxy to Ruth.
My pain is now unbearable, I miss her so much. Even after a quarrel we would hold hands as we slept. I would give anything to hold her hands once more.
