Ruth, born June 13, 1928, also joins her beloved parents Joe and Myrtle Cottrell, sister Faye Jenkins Perkins and sister-in-law Mae Cottrell. She leaves behind her brother Dorman Cottrell of Lenoir, son Joe Reynolds (Pam), daughter Jill Philmon (Tony), both of Charlotte and Laurie Dowling (Michael) of Los Angeles. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chris Reynolds (Megan), Travis Reynolds, Janie Tettmar (Alex), Mia Dennis, Matthew Philmon (Stefanie) and Blair Philmon Johnson; two great grandchildren, Alana Reynolds, Ryan Tettmar and (soon to enter this world) Finnley Tettmar. There was nothing more important to Ruth than her family.
Miss Ruth, as she was called by many, retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system as a Cafeteria Manager. She was a longtime member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and leaves behind many faithful friends. She was a devoted Christian and practiced being kind and sweet to everyone. She was seldom seen without a smile on her face. She will always be remembered for how great a cook she was and her award-winning Caramel Cake!
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Pineville Rehab and Living Center who made her last days so comfortable. We also thank her doctors of over 30 years, Dr. David Framm and Dr. Ed Bradford both of Mecklenburg Medical Group who took wonderful care of her and helped us keep her for almost 90 years.
The services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Services and Sharon Memorial. Guests will be received at 1:00 pm, the celebration of her life at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Sharon Memorial.
In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations to the Hospice of Union County,
