She leaves three children: her daughter, Elizabeth Watson (“Liz”), her daughter, Whitner Bailey and husband Ken, and her son, Michael Parker Whitner; three grandchildren, Will Watson and wife Sarah, David Harris and wife Kayley, and Sarah Harris; and three great-grandchildren, Piper Watson, Lily Watson and Maddie Watson; as well as her pet, Baxter (dog).
Her spouse, C. Eugene “Gene” McCartha in 1987 and her son, C. Eugene “Neil” McCartha III, preceded her in death in 1989, who died at the age of 20.
A working mother and homemaker, Sally was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. She loved cooking gourmet foods – so much so, that she opened a shop at Cotswold Shopping Center named “The Gourmet Cupboard”.
She was also an avid gardener, and loved creating beautiful gardens and planting her vegetable garden. It was through her gardening that she even was making friends with bunnies, chipmunks, and birds – that followed her while she worked!
Her talent of interior decorating knew no bounds! Some of the colors of our bedrooms, growing up – were YEARS ahead! Now they are what is so fashionable! She knew where all the fabric stores were and had a furniture reupholster on stand-by for many years. Not only were our homes beautiful, they were warm with family and love. Christmas time was her time to shine with decorating – our home was always so beautiful and festive!
She had the biggest heart for all those that knew her. In addition, she knew no strangers. Everywhere she went – she formed friendships and she truly cared about everybody she met. It was so easy to talk to her – she had a great sense of humor that could lighten up everybody she talked with. Her light will shine on forever!
The service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 25, 2018 in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service.
