Samuel Carey Stone

Mr. Stone of Charlotte, NC, passed away on November 25, 2010. He was born in Siler City, NC, a son of the late Lura and John Stone. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

He had been in the finance business and retired from Commercial Real Estate. He was listed in the top 10 brokers in Charlotte in 1986, 87 and 1988. He was Past President of the Retail Credit Association and past member of the Optimist Club, City Club, Tower Club and Goodfellows.

Mr. Stone was a member of Myers Park Country Club, Myers Park Methodist Church, the Luther Snyder Bible Class and served on the Usher Committee.

He was one of the organizers of the Heart Ball and served as Chairman of the first Heart Ball. He was a member of the Mint Museum and former Collectors Circle within the Mint. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed dancing and reading.

Mr. Stone is survived by his wife June; son Donald and wife, Lynette; grandson Nick, all of Winnetka, Illinois; nephews, Herman and Ron Stone of Charlotte, Elmer Stone of Florida and three nieces.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Harry & Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Interment in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
