Sandy Hill, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, peacefully drew her last breath at 3:52pm on Sunday, August 14th, 2022. Surrounded by those she loved most in this world, the family held her tight through her last heartbeat as she met the face of Jesus.
Born Sandra Kay Sibilsky in San Angelo, Texas on January 9, 1948, She was the daughter of Milton Sibilsky and Katherine Sibilsky. Following graduation from San Angelo High School, Sandy furthered her education starting at Angelo State University where she was active in Speech and Drama, a member of Lambda Tau Delta Sorority and had the leading role in Spoon River Anthology. She eventually transferred to Texas Tech University where she earned a degree in Education. Sandy dedicated her professional career to both teaching (Speech and Drama Abilene High School) and government (Civil Service for the FAA).
She married the love of her life, Gary Hill, on Valentine’s Day 1986. Together they loved traveling, trying new restaurants and attending seasonal festivals. Sandy was an avid member of The Girl Scouts of America as well as Head of The Girl Scouts in Big Springs, Texas. She loved cross-stitch, sewing and reading.
Sadly, an unexpected turn of events happened in August of 1994 while living in Euless, Texas. At the tender of age of 46, she collapsed at work with a brain aneurysm. Given a 30% chance of survival, she overcame insurmountable odds and fought her way back to her family. Although the stroke impaired her vision, speech and walking, the one thing that remained constant was leading with her heart. She never met a stranger before or after the tragedy; and up until the very end, she opened every greeting with, “I love youuuuuu.”
Her whole world took on a new meaning and purpose when she became Mam-maw to three precious grandchildren. They were her greatest treasures next to her husband and children. She loved watching their dance recitals, cheer competitions and football games. In 2016, she and Gary became one of the first residents in the desired neighborhood of Carolina Orchards. It didn’t take long to make dozens of new friends. She closely cherished their time together whether it was movies in the driveway, socials at The Grove, Samba with their village or just a good ole pop-by to say, ‘Hi!” It was her heaven on earth.
After a beautiful lunch and ice cream stop on Wednesday, August 10th, Sandy got home and instantly began to feel chills and became unresponsive. She was rushed to the ER where it was discovered she had an infection that would turn septic. She opted for no aggressive measures. She made it very clear to her family, that after twenty eight years of living with her handicap, she was ready to meet Jesus.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Gary Hill of 36 years; daughter, Kristin Vining (Ken) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Brian Hill of Kilgore, Texas, three adored grandchildren, Keira Hill of Kilgore, Texas and Bray and Addy Vining of Fort Mill, South Carolina.
A “Bless Your Heart” Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10th, 2022 at The Grove in Carolina Orchards - 154 York Southern Rd.
