Sandra E. Hersey Turner

March 15, 1959May 5, 2012

Sandra Elise Turner was born March 15, 1959 in Manhasset, New York to Iley Pearsal Hersey, Sr. and Verneice Lyons. She was the younger of two children. Sandra peacefully departed this life on May 5, 2012, a beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and a friend. Sandra was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Hempstead, New York

She attended Hempstead High where she was apart of many social groups and organizations. As a teenager growing up in New York, Sandra discovered a love for dance, particularly in modern jazz and in African dance, her favorite. Her love of the art let her to perform with an African dance troop for many years. After high school, Sandra proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she served 12 years as a supply and procurement technician for Air Force One. She was honorably discharged in 1992. Sandra was presently working, as a Para-Legal, at Banc of America Merchant Services, where she was both loved and respected.

In life, Sandra was most proud of the wonderful joy found in her 28 year marriage to Kenneth, and the happiness of being Kristen’s mother. She went above and beyond for her family. And knowing she provided all she could for them was all the joy she ever needed in life.

If you knew Sandra you would also know that she was a true blue fan of the singing group “The Whispers”, Sandra and Ken would attend their concerts all over the country. This made her extremely happy!

Its not often you meet a person with a special presence about them. “Sandy” as she was affectionately called, had that very special presence. She had a loving spirit, noticed by everyone she met. A shoulder to lean on by those in need of support, and always offering great advice to those looking for direction. Sandra was selfless to a default, giving without complaint. Her smile brought great joy and calm to those around her.

Sandra is predeceased in death by her father Iley Pearsall Hersey, Sr. and brother, Iley P. Hersey Jr. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: mother, Verneice Hersey; her devoted husband Kenneth Turner ; daughter, Kristen Turner, all of Charlotte NC; step son, Christopher Turner(Sheboygan,WI) step daughter, Adrienne Turner(Vallejo ,Ca); two nieces, Heather and Latoya Hersey (Columbia ,SC); cousins, Catherine Canty and Carole Jackson(Far Rockaway NY); Horace and Lucy Moore(Teaneck, NJ), Evangelists Adrian and Pandora Hersey (Glen Cove, NY); Alcenia Holmes and Robert Moore(Wilmington, NC); Shirley Harris (New York);Leon Moore (Pennsylvania); Victor Hussey (Greensboro, NC); Lorraine Hussey Clark(Atlanta, GA); Wanda Williams (Wilmington, NC); special friends, Priscilla and Kyle Chambliss with God children Lynette and Terrance (Maryland), God children Taylor and Dean Gaul; friend/sister to our family Lynn Porter-Carlos with a special niece and nephew Dawauna and Duane Carlos (Hempstead,NY)

A funeral to celebrate her life will be held at Noon, Friday, May 11, 2012 at The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service with Father T. Herbert Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 12:00PM prior to the funeral hour. Interment with military honors will be at 1:00PM, Monday, May 14th in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY

I was just doing some work on my iPad, and my mother, out of divine providence, stated, "Pam, you have Sandy to thank for your computer knowledge". Like a bolt of lightening, I re-remembered the Birthday of my Pisces sister, Sandy. I will never forget her. We are closer to starting construction for our new Church. Ken and Kristen, the St. Michael's Church family, want you both there in Sandy 's honor, when the doors of our new Church are opened. May God Bless🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Hi My Love, As I celebrate another Christmas here on earth with out you, I can tell you that the years help mend a broken heart, but it does nothing for the past memories. How I remember you planning what items you are going to take out of storage to display for the Christmas season, and how you would convince (lol force) me to put up lights outside. Oh how I miss that. Well I am sure that you have your Mom and Dad and Brother and Priscilla and Lynn as well decorating Heaven in a beautiful splendor. I love you and think of you every day, until we see each other again...

Happy Birthday my love, Although I have not seen you for a while, I feel you everyday, I hear you in my mind, laughing, and talking and saying my whole name "Kenneth" Sometimes you fool me, I think it's you telling me to stay strong, and it ends up being God, lol you always did have a sense of humor! Now you have convinced our Lord and Savior in on your loving fun. I love that the Lord is taking care of you and you spend all your time worshiping and praising Him. Even after three years, I still miss kissing you, and touching your soft hair, but it is worth the sacrifice, because I know that know one can love you and take care of you like our God is doing. So Happy Birthday my love, eat a piece of cake for me. Tell your Mom and Dad and brother and Ms Priscilla hi, and to give you gag gifts! I will love you forever and I am not scared anymore. And no my love, these are not tears of sadness, no, these are tears of joy, because I can see you in your beautiful heavenly home, smiling as you read these words written from my heart. Thank you for smiling and your never end love!

Ken and Kristen, I have felt a strong sense of Sandy this month. We used to always remember that we both share Birthdays in March. May the spirit of my friend Sandy, and the spirit of our Almighty Saviour comfort you as you approach Sandy's Birthday. Also know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers.
