

Born on May 31, 1935 to James Lawrence and Ruth Maultsby Coley, Sara grew up in Wilmington, NC and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1953. She attended East Carolina University until marrying her high school sweetheart, William Richard Lewis, in 1955.
Sara’s life revolved around church and family. For decades at First Presbyterian Church of Belmont, she devoted herself behind the scenes to compassion ministries and was awarded the Presbyterian Women Lifetime Award for her service in the church.
Sara adored her two sons and cherished spending time with her four grandchildren. She will be remembered by friends and family for her radiant smile, her warmth, her friendliness, and her care for others.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband; survived by her two sons, John Lawrence Lewis and wife, Mary Ellen, of Mt. Holly, NC and Richard Alan Lewis and wife, Ruth, of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Michael, Hannah, Caroline and Sara Reid; her brother, James Lawrence Coley, Jr. and wife Linda, of Atlanta, GA; her niece, Lisa Coley, and nephew, Bryan Coley and family, both of Atlanta, GA; as well as other dear cousins.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Belmont, 102 South Central Avenue, Belmont, NC on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
On Friday, July 21, 2017, the family will receive friends at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 10:30. Private burial service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.
