Sara Noll Thompson Mikell, 86, died February 2, 2011 at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, SC. Nolly was born in Charlotte on August 22, 1924, daughter of the late Mildred Walser and Frederick Noll Thompson. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Charles Olliff Mikell, and her sister, Mildred Thompson Beury.
She is survived by her sister, Caroline Thompson Carriker (John); three daughters, Mary Mikell McDonald (Angus), Katherine Mikell Cochran (Thomas), and Mildred Mikell McNeil (Gordon); four grandchildren, Charles Olliff Mikell McDonald, Mary Noll McDonald, Thomas Farish Cochran, Jr., and Lillie Mikell Cochran; niece, Blair Carriker Donald and nephew, Frederick Thompson Carriker.
Nolly and Mike loved to travel, taking trips with close friends to many foreign countries – but Paris was her favorite city. Her love of art, music and the French people brought her back there time and again. She had a wicked sense of humor and loved a good laugh with friends. She blessed her family with her honesty, humility and generosity.
She graduated from Central High School in 1942, attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from Queens College in 1946. She was a member of the Charlotte Junior League, the Charlotte Assembly, the Charlotte Country Club and the German Club.
We give special thanks and love to Ruby Johnson for her love and devotion to our mother.
