

Mrs. James Gaston Hough, 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at her home in Charlotte. Sarah was born in Salisbury, NC on February 1, 1915 and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pinkney Meetze.
Her husband, James Gaston Hough, Sr. preceded her in death, as well as her six sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her two daughters and her son, Susan Hough Thrailkill and husband Wayne, Sara Hough Blackwelder and husband John, and James Gaston Hough, Jr. and wife Tina, all of Charlotte.
Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Holly Alexander and husband Fred of Charlotte, Sarah Catherine Robinson and husband Clay of Durham, and Paul Wright IV and wife Jennifer of Charlotte; as well as her six precious great-grandchildren, June, Calvin and Sarah Audrey Alexander, and Lucas, Weldon and Brooks Wright.
Over the years, she was cared for and visited by many wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as her entire extended family who also visited her on many occasions.
Sarah moved to Charlotte as a new bride and later became a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. She was an avid golfer and gardener. In the Spring of her 100th birthday, Sarah was planning, along with her daughter, Susan, a most beautiful flower garden. Her love for nature and all of God’s creation was instrumental in her long life, and she felt grateful for all of God’s gifts.
A service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 7th in the chapel of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends at the church following the service. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank her dear friend and neighbor, Anne Ranson, who visited her regularly. Gratitude is also expressed to the staff of Home Care of Charlotte, who provided such loving care.
