Sarah Irene Williams

Miss. Williams, age 86, formerly of Charlotte, passed away September 14, 2014 at home in Pamlico Beach, NC. She was born on October 1, 1927 in Charlotte, daughter of the late J. O. Williams and Bessie James Williams. Miss Williams was a graduate of Queens College summa cum laude and received her Master’s Degree at UNC Chapel Hill. She was a math professor at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and eventuality became Head of the Math Department at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ. where she was responsible for math questions on the SAT Exams. After retiring to Miami, FL in 1984 where she lived until 2007, she moved to Pamlico Beach, NC A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday September 20, 2014 at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive Friends following the service. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy W. Crook of Charlotte, NC, niece Dianne (John) Purifoy of Pamlico Beach, NC, nephew, Jim Crook (Joyce) of Mooresville, NC, great nieces, Traci Cruz (Christian) of Canton, GA, Amy Purifoy of Chicago, IL and a great-great niece, Olivia Grace Cruz. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 4530 Park Road #230, Charlotte, NC 28209.
