Born June 20, 1938 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of Woodrow Wilson Austin and Addie Jane Caraway Austin. Following graduation from Harding High School Jean worked as a seamstress making clothes and draperies. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
The joy of Jean’s life was her family. She adored her husband, James David (Jimmy) Earnhardt, her children, and her dog, Zoe. She loved planting flowers. She also loved traveling, especially to Hawaii.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Woodrow Hargett and wife Dale Smith Hargett and daughter, Kim Desiree Hargett Baucom and husband Bobby Ray Baucom, as well as her sister, Janice Marie Austin Garris of Mint Hill, NC
She is preceded in death by her husband, James David Earnhardt, son, James David Earnhardt Jr., and daughter, Mitzi Leigh Earnhardt.
A receiving of friends for Jean will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at McEwen Funeral Home @ Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
