

Shelby was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank Overcash and Ninna Collins Overcash. She was a graduate of Mooresville High School and retired from Travelers Insurance Company, Charlotte NC. Shelby was a long-time member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and Funeral Meal Coordinator. In recognition of her dedication and service, she was honored by Presbyterian Women with the Honorary Life Membership Award.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Grady Sloan Alexander, and her beloved grand dog, Emmy. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Joe, Hank, John, Price, Virgil, Rogers, and Jack Overcash, and her sisters Edith Chappell, Margaret Overcash, Estelle Monteith, and Patricia Echerd.
Shelby is survived by her devoted daughter, Stephanie Alexander, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Shelby was an avid bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs. She remained very active in her communities throughout her life. For many years she served as the Coulwood Swim Team scorekeeper. At Polo Gate, she served as Social Committee Chair and warmly welcomed every new owner to the community. Shelby also had a special gift for staying connected with others, sending hundreds of cards each year to family, friends, neighbors, and church members for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and get-well wishes.
A graveside service will be held on March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina. Later that day, at 12:30 p.m., a memorial service and celebration of Shelby’s life will be held at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, officiated by Reverend Dr. Frederick G. Grosse. A reception and receiving of friends will follow in the church’s Christian Fellowship Center.
