

Shirley Savage Smith, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, born August 5, 1926 in Greenville, NC, peacefully passed away on February 10, 2022 at her home in Charlotte, NC. A longtime resident of Charlotte, she was a wife and homemaker and she was involved in many volunteer activities.
Raised in Greenville, NC, she attended East Carolina Teachers College and later moved to Raleigh, NC to begin her teaching career. In September of 1949 she married G Bernard Smith and moved to Charlotte to begin her married life. She and Bernard were married almost 70 years until Bernard passed away in 2019. They had a son and a daughter.
Shirley was a longtime member of Sardis Presbyterian Church, active in circle, visitation of incarcerated women, Sunday School teacher and Meals on Wheels volunteer. She always put her family and others before herself. Her kind and generous spirit touched others in a loving manner and she was a joy to all who knew her.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Frank Adrian and Madeline Pollard Savage, and her husband, G Bernard Smith. She is survived by her son, Grady Franklin Smith (Patti), her daughter, Deborah Sheryl Smith, and her grandson, Frank Whitman Smith.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the caregivers of Home Instead who were very loyal to Shirley and stayed with her throughout her time of need. And to all of her friends and family, who kept her smiling and happy, God bless you.
