

Loving, beautiful, generous Sonja Askew Tucker Williams, after a long decline in health, went home to start her new life with her Savior and Lord on June 18, 2015. Sonja, daughter to Samuel and Margaret Askew and sister to Jerry, Billie Anne and Ron, was born in Charlotte on October 10th, 1938. Sonja married and had three children Bryant, Robert and Yvette.
As a military wife, Sonja moved around quite a bit, but the focus of her life was her children. Sonja survived cancer and divorce and returned to North Carolina to raise her children and enjoy a career in banking.
In 1989 Sonja met the love of her life, Jack Williams, and married him in 1991 and they enjoyed many happy years together until his passing in 2006. Afterwards, she lived close to family in Greensboro and Raleigh until her passing.
Sonja was a great and generous lady who loved animals and kept special pets Crystal, Tiffany, Gigi, Lokai and others. Sonja often gave of her time and money to the less fortunate, and she crafted prayer bears for cancer patients and enjoyed dressing as a clown to entertain nursing home residents.
Sonja is survived by son Bryant Tucker and wife Yvonne, son Robert Tucker, daughter Yvette Williams and husband Mark, grandsons Kenny Tucker, Josh Williams, Sammy Tucker, Zach Williams, Connor Tucker, Jake Tucker and Hunter Williams, sister Jerry Mudge and husband Skip, sister Billie Anne Gordon, brother Ron Askew and wife Donna, stepsons Garry Williams and Greg Williams, stepdaughter Wenette Temple and husband Ralph, and step granddaughters Catherine Temple and Becky Beard and husband DJ.
Service will be held at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home at 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte on Thursday June 25th at 3pm, the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. There will also be a service at Whispering Pines Retirement Living at 7501 Lead Mine Road in Raleigh on Wednesday July 1 at 3pm.
