He was born December 7, 1934 in Huntington, NY, son of the late Harold Bolton and Evelyn Bolton.
At age 17, Stanley was enlisted by his father into the US Navy, which he always said changed the course of his life. He proudly served on the USS Putnam Destroyer during the Korean War. After four years in the service, he worked various jobs until he joined the Huntington Police Department, which later became the Suffolk County Police Department of NY, where he was a patrolman then detective in the Intelligence Unit, retiring in 1978.
Stan and Mary enjoyed many summers with family and friends on the Susquehanna River in Upstate New York and started spending winters in Sebastian, Florida, where they finally settled, joining many of Stan’s detective colleagues in this quaint coastal town. They enjoyed lots of fun times on the Indian River and many late-night card games and pool parties with friends. Stan and Mary lived a life of adventure, traveling cross country many times including Alaska, Canada, and Mexico, in their RV and motorcycle. Once becoming grandparents, they moved to the Carolinas to be near the grandchildren and settled in Sun City Carolina Lakes, where they spent the last 17 years, enjoying retirement to the fullest, Stan especially loved playing cards and billiards. He was the life of the party and a wiz at pinochle and euchre, always ready with a joke and a smile shining all the way through his beautiful blue eyes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Richards Bolton; son, John Bolton (Linda) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Christine Neese (Mike) of Indian Land, SC; and granddaughters, Della and Clara Neese. Stanley was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Carol Korte and Alice Boglino.
Stanley will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and great love of family, especially his wife, Mary, and being a very proud Pa Pa to his beloved granddaughters, Della and Clara.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caretakers at Wellmore of Tega Cay and Hamilton Family Care Home of Charlotte, who took great care of him these last four months, as well as Dr. Howard Mandell, who cared for Stanley since his Parkinson's diagnosis 15 years ago.
The family will hold a private celebration of life later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Parkinson’s Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
