

Tammy was a graduate of Tustin High School (Class of 1978) and Emory & Henry College (2007). Throughout her life, she exemplified genuine kindness, selflessness, and resilience. She was deeply devoted to her family and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother.
Tammy was an inspiring and loved member of the Church of Christ and loved serving others. A dedicated teacher, she inspired many students during her years at Glade Spring Middle School and served with unwavering commitment in the children’s ministry at Highlands Fellowship. Tammy’s passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, and she was always ready to discuss history whenever she had the chance.
Outside of her professional life, Tammy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life like reading, dining out (especially at Chick-fil-A), and spending time outdoors. She had a warm, welcoming spirit and was known for her big heart, genuine smile, and boundless love for those around her.
Tammy will be remembered most for her kindness, generosity, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and valued.
She is survived by her loving children, Katie Zier of Glade Spring, VA, Beth Pasco (Richard) of Glade Spring, VA, and Emily Pope (Tim) of Huntersville, NC; her grandchildren, Olivia Zier, Jett Pasco, Roman, Brette, Riley, Weston, Silas, and Harper Pope; her former spouse, Brian Zier (Katie Lamb), and her beloved companion, Gunnar. Tammy was preceded in death by her mother, Michelle Schubert, and her brother, Jeff Matthews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262. Funeral service immediately following. Tammy will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family also invites all who knew and loved Tammy to a Celebration of Life at Damascus Old Mill Inn in Virginia on Wednesday, May 20 at 6 pm.
