Born in Florence, SC, on December 8, 1962, Tom was the son of June Rogers Danner and the late Gerald Mack Scarborough. Tom attended Florence District 1 Schools and graduated from Wilson High School. He went to Lander University, but graduated from Francis Marion University in 1988 with a B.S. degree in political science. After working for several years in the retail jewelry business at Hughes Jewelers, Tom went back to school and received his BSN in 1995 from The University of South Carolina. Tom was currently traveling the country conducting hospital staff in-service on patient monitoring equipment for JustiCorp, and he also was continuing to do some PRN work as an emergency room nurse at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. During his earlier career as a full time nurse, he worked at South Carolina DHEC, Cape Fear Hospital, and Roper St. Francis Hospital in Columbia.
Tom was a joyful soul who loved life and social gatherings, and he faithfully cultivated the connections he had with family and friends. He loved the beach, cars, and Pepsi Cola. He also loved staying busy with home improvement projects, and Lowe’s was one of his favorite stores. Tom Scarborough never sat still.
Tom leaves behind his longtime partner Kenneth Pack of Charlotte; his mother, June Rogers Danner and step-father Bob Danner of Florence, SC; his sister Meg Scarborough Reed of Murrells Inlet, SC; his three children: Doug Scarborough (Kaitlin) of Florence, Taylor Scarborough (Shannon) of Florence, and Amanda Scarborough of Florence; a granddaughter (Abby McKnight) of Florence; his pugs Oscar and Felix (the “Twin Littles”); and many other extended family members who loved him dearly.
