Velma "Nana" Langley Bridges

Velma Langley Bridges, age 94, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Charlotte, passed away peacefully December 25, 2023. Born on a farm near Newnan, GA, she was the daughter of Joseph T. and Pansey (Chandler) Langley.

On July 19, 1946 she married John C. Bridges. Later Velma and John relocated to Charlotte, NC and raised two children; John Curtis Bridges III and Elizabeth Ann Bridges.

While raising her children, Velma started working for Kemper Insurance. She also returned to school to obtained her High School Diploma and her Associates Degree. After 20 years of employment, Velma retired from Kemper Insurance and began working at Eckerd Drugs. When her husband's illness progressed she stopped working to care for him. John died in 2011 and Velma was right there with him until the end.

Velma was the one that held her family together and she loved feeding any and everyone. Everyone that met her, loved her.

She moved to Florida in 2013 to be with her sister when her sister's husband died and later getting her own place to live.

Her name became Nana to all after her grandchildren came along and she will be missed dearly.

Velma is survived by her children, John (Janet) Curtis Bridges III and Elizabeth (Edward) Bridges Walkley; sister, Barbara "Babs" Anderson along with 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Margaret Sherlin.

Funeral Service 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Visitation 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Entombment in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
