

Virginia Lee Frederick Thornburg, age 82, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Virginia Frederick Thornburg, 82, passed away on May 20, 2025 at home in Charlotte, North Carolina from over a 2 year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 35 years , Charles E Thornburg, sons Paul Burns ( Robin) , Jeff Burns, Kelly Thornburg ( Gina ), Todd Thornburg ( Tammy), daughter Meredith Smith, granddaughters Alyssa Lowry (Jason), Katie Burns, Kellyn Thornburg, Wesley Stenzel, Taylor Thornburg, Tesslyn Walker, great grandsons JJ Lowry and Bellamy Thornburg, brothers Norris Frederick (Kimberly Reynolds), Charles Frederick (Deborah Smith), and many cherished nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents John and Caldwell Frederick, sister Frances Seamon, grandson Brandon Thornburg, and nephew Mark Seamon.
Virginia was born on September 23, 1942 in Charlotte, NC. She was raised in Charlotte and proudly called it and the surrounding area home. She graduated from Garringer High School in 1961. Within a few years she had two sons, Paul and Jeff and raised them while being a single mother. She began working at Hoechst Celanese and advanced to a position in Information Technologies. After retirement she decided to get her real estate license and had a wonderful 15 year career as a real estate agent.
Virginia, in her teenage and later years, loved to dance the shag. This dance later became North and South Carolina’s official state dance. It was also referred to as beach music. Virginia met her husband Charles Thornburg at such a dance at Ocean Drive Beach, South Carolina. Virginia possessed an awesome personality and great sense of humor. She enjoyed meeting and talking to different individuals on a wide range of subjects, not to mention her family which she dearly loved. She loved to read and would often read a book over a weekend.
Virginia was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted him as her savior. A favorite scripture of hers was John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
