

He was born October 17, 1942 in Danforth, Maine, the son of George and Frances (Muncey) Cropley.
He married Rachel Nephew on February 20, 1971, and they shared fifty years of life together. Walter worked as a Plumber and Steamfitter at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Hospital before he retired in 1996. He graciously served in the Army from October, 1967 through October, 1970.
Walter always knew how to make the people around him laugh with his witty remarks. He loved to sit on the porch and swing with classic country music playing in the background. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel, his daughter Sonya Lindley and her husband Chandler Lindley of Charlotte, NC, his son Walter Cropley, Jr. and his wife Jean Cropley of Dover Plains, NY, his daughter Christina Poteat and husband Clay Poteat of Rock Hill, SC, his grandchildren Brandon, Alexandria and Matthew Cropley, Charissa and Trent Lindley, and Jakob Poteat. He is also survived by his sisters Georgia Mailman of Houlton, ME, Dola Austin of East Millinocket, ME; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition, he was predeceased by his parents and his siblings; Rachel Flynn, Gertie Hafford, Rhoda Veysey, Frances Holmes, Bertha Shaw, Don Cropley, Erwin Cropley and Ralph Cropley.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at Messiah Lutheran Church, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10 am, 8300 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28277.
