

Mr. Davenport, age 80, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center. Born February 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Thurman and Arlene Gresham Davenport. Mr. Davenport is also preceded in death by great-granddaughter, Kilah Anne Davenport.
Mr. Davenport served in the US Air Force (1956-1960), and graduated from East Carolina University in 1964.
Retiring in December of 2016, Mr. Davenport was a textile chemicals salesman for 52 years. He had most recently worked part-time for Standard Dye and Chemical, Burlington, NC. His working career started with J.P. Stevens’ Delta #2 plant at Wallace, SC. From there he spent five years with Collins & Aikman at Farmville, NC, and another three and-a-half at C&A in Pennsylvania. In 1973 he joined C&K as a senior technician in exhaust dyeing. In 1976 Ken, known as Whisper-jet because he “talked soft and moved fast” entered the sales force.
For 44 years he was a dedicated member of the Friendship Class and Central United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday, March 4th at Central United Methodist Church. The service to celebrate the life of Walter Kenneth Davenport will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Michelle Chappell, and Rev. Susan Webster, officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ina Felister Davenport; two sons, Brian Davenport and wife, Leslie; Gary Davenport and wife, Patti; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward Davenport and wife, Geraldine and Thomas Davenport and wife, Linda; and many nieces and nephews.
