Walter Stephen Hayes

Walter Stephen Hayes,66, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home in the early morning hours of January 23, 2012. He had battled Multiple Myeloma for several years. Steve was the second of three children born to Harry & Beulah Hayes in Greensboro, NC. The family moved to Charlotte in 1957. He enlisted in the North Carolina Air National Guard in 1966 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 2002 serving as a Flight Line Supervisor. He is survived by his wife Pamela Shinn Hayes, his sons Mark and Clint, their wives, Erin and Tonya; his grandchildren, Lauren & Cooper, his former wife Norma, and his brother David and sister-in-law Debbie; his beloved dog Toby and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Forest Lawn West Chapel with Reverends Mark Muckler and Samuel Guthrie officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mouzon United Methodist Church, 3100 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209. Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service.
