Reverend Walter Clark Thompson, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, made his entrance into the Land he sang and preached about on August 4th. He was born Jan. 27, 1924, to Walter Clark Thompson, Sr. and Alda Gar Thompson in Taylorsville, NC.
He trained as a pilot and was also a mechanic in the Army Air Force in WWII. He sang baritone with the Rangers Trio for several years; singing and listening to gospel music remained a passion throughout his life. He founded Shopton Road Baptist Church in Charlotte and was the Pastor there for 39 years. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda Jean Thompson; his sister, Deane Price (Lindsey Price); and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, the 8th, at Trinity Baptist Church on Arrowood Rd. in Charlotte at 1 p.m. with Rev. Fenton "Bud" Parker, Rev. Randy Parker, and Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Music selections will be presented by Wallace Nelms. The family will receive friends at the church at noon. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park.
