Mr. Moritz lived in Charlotte since 1963, when he moved both his family and his business interests here. A pioneer in the textile printing industry, he was President and major stockholder of several companies, of which the largest was Hydro Prints, Inc. He later merged these companies into Automated Prints, Inc., which was listed on the American Stock Exchange. Eventually he sold that company and bought part ownership in Printmatic, Inc. in Albemarle, NC.
Mr. Moritz attended Cooper Union College but dropped out the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked to join the US Armed Forces. As a member of P.O. Box 1142, a secret American military intelligence facility, he was instrumental in obtaining crucial Nazi secrets, serving in both the US and in Europe. His efforts resulted in the arrest and prosecution of a number of high-ranking Nazi officials.
Mr. Moritz loved all sports, but his true joy and passion was golf. He was a well known member of both Carolina Country Club and Raintree Country Club for over 40 years.
He was a proud and active member of the Charlotte Jewish community and had served on the boards of both Temple Beth El and the Charlotte Jewish Federation.
Mr. Moritz is survived by his one true love and friend, his wife of 67 years, Margot. He leaves two children, Joan, of Seattle,WA, and Paul, of Charlotte. In addition, he leaves his brother-in-law Bernd and his wife Eta, and their two children Kai and Karen; and his first cousin Marion and her husband Hans.
A service will be conducted at the graveside at the Hebrew Cemetery by Rabbi Judy Schindler on Tuesday, October 12 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Beth El, Jewish Family Services, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
