On June 19, 1943, Bill was born to Frank and Dot Crater; and was raised in Winston-Salem, NC. After marrying the true love of his life, Rose, they moved to Charlotte, NC. Once retired, they moved to Seabrook, Island, SC, for several years, and in 2012 they returned to the Charlotte area, in Davidson, NC, to be closer to their grandchildren.
Bill enjoyed traveling with Rose, his late wife, around NC/SC and the world. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his daughters, as well as his son-in-law. His happiest moments were when they were all together. He loved to play golf, do volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity and donated 25+ years of his life as head coach of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Beepball Team (known as baseball for the blind). He was generous, loving, intelligent, friendly, strong, handsome, and so many will greatly miss him.
William "Bill" Franklin Crater Jr is survived by his two daughters Katherine Gray Crater of Buffalo, NY, and Kelly Elizabeth Futrell of Charlotte, NC. As well as his son-in-law Jeffrey Keith Futrell and two grandchildren, Ava Catherine Futrell and Brodie Scott Futrell. Bill is also survived by his brother Stephen Crater and sister Cyndi Petree and so many others, as well as those whose friendships turned into family over the years.
A funeral will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
In place of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Hunterville, NC in place of flowers.
