Born April 14, 1929 in Meriden, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Thomas L. Ferry and Anna D. Ferry. Following graduation from Georgetown Prep in Washington, DC, Bill furthered his education earning his undergraduate degree at Christ the King Seminary and earned his Master’s degree at Fairfield University in Connecticut. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force as an Electronics Countermeasure officer. Following his military service, Bill spent his professional career at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as a Contracts Compliance Manager. Bill was a lifelong, active member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.
Bill’s greatest joy and priority was his faith and family throughout his life. He led a strong Christian life, faithfully serving God and others. He was an advocate of social justice, was kind and compassionate to all, especially the underdog. Bill’s happiest moments were those surrounded by family. He loved family events including going on beach trips, cheering on his children at their athletic events, and visiting extended family members. He also loved sweets, especially when sharing them with his friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Jackie; four loving children, Joe Ferry of Charlotte, Maria Ferry Oppegard (Greg) of Newport Coast, California, Anna Ferry Scott (Scotty) of Terre Haute, Indiana and Bill Ferry Jr (Katie); and 11 beloved grandchildren, Madeline and Matthew Oppegard; Adam, Ryan, Gregory, Caitlyn, Ava and Caroline Scott; Will, Sam and Jack Ferry.
He was preceded in death by his brothers John, Thomas and Vincent Ferry and sister Maureen Slattery of Connecticut. He is survived by his sister Anne Jane Delaney (Thomas) of Connecticut. He is also survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, on Monday, May 14th from 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 15th at 11:30 am at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. A reception will immediately follow the Mass.
