He was born on July 29, 1940, in Union County to the late William Reece Honeycutt and the late Loma Privette Honeycutt. Larry was a member of the former East Avenue Associate Reformed Presbyterian (A.R.P.) Church in Charlotte and Craig Avenue A.R.P. Church in Charlotte. When East Avenue A.R.P. Church closed in 1998, its congregation members merged with Craig Avenue A.R.P. Church. He faithfully served many years as a Deacon and as an Elder. He sang in the Craig Avenue choir with his beloved wife Gail and never hesitated to volunteer to help with church handyman projects.
Larry began working at Pelton & Crane, a dental and surgical supply company in Charlotte, when he was 18. He served the company for 44 years, spending the majority of his years as the highly respected Supervisor of the Repair Department. At one point, he was specifically chosen to travel to a business in Canada to facilitate much-needed repairs.
He was a tall, handsome man with a generous heart. All who met him were touched by his gentle, quiet spirit. He was greatly loved, respected, and admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Larry enjoyed listening to country music, working jigsaw puzzles and framing them, tuning into old Westerns on TV, and repairing anything that needed to be fixed. Favorite sports included NASCAR races, Atlanta Braves baseball, and, especially, Tarheel basketball.
But, most of all, he treasured spending time with his family, being a loving and dedicated son, husband, son-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and uncle. Larry was married to his best friend and wife, Gail, for almost 61 years. He served as a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Kim, and shared a close his relationship with his son-in-law, Steve. His two grandchildren, Emily and Mark, were his pride and joy, and he cherished them with all his heart. He lovingly created and painted detailed wooden yard signs of Disney characters for them on their birthdays when they were young.
Larry loved being outside, maintaining his lawn, keeping the family cars perfectly detailed, and growing a sizable vegetable garden. He and Gail treasured their time together, traveling to the beach, Charleston, and Savannah. He faithfully cared for his mother, Loma, and his mother-in-law, Mary, while they spent their later years at home or in nursing facilities. After he retired and his own health began to decline, he and Gail spent every day together, enjoying each other’s company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Richard Honeycutt; his sister-in-law, Shirley Honeycutt; his father-in-law, James Vortiman Holder; and mother-in-law, Mary Neville Holder, who was like a second mother to him.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are: his beloved wife of almost 61 years, Sandra Gail Holder Honeycutt of Matthews; his daughter, Kimberly Paige Honeycutt Jarrett, and her husband, Steven Worth Jarrett of Charlotte; his granddaughter, Emily Catherine Jarrett of Matthews; his grandson, Mark Steven Jarrett of Charlotte; his sister, Kay Adams of Matthews; his brother, James Honeycutt, and his wife, Sally, of Charlotte; his brother, Ronnie Honeycutt of Charlotte; and his sister-in-law, Kitty Honeycutt of Matthews. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly.
