William Nash Sr.

Mr. Nash lived a life grounded in faith, work, and family. He attended South Mecklenburg High School and went on to build a long and dedicated career with Continental Tire, formerly General Tire, retiring after 37 years of service. His many years there reflected a steady commitment to his work and to providing through faithful labor.

A man of deep conviction, William “Pete” Nash, Sr. served as a Deacon at his home church, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pineville, North Carolina. He loved his church, and most importantly, he loved the Lord. His life was closely tied to his faith, and the words of Philippians 4:8–9 held special meaning:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”

He leaves cherished memories with his wife, Tricia Watkins Taylor-Nash; his children, James G. Nash, Pervis D. Nash, and William Nash Jr. and his wife, Constance Grasso Nash; with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and with his siblings, Mildred (Nash) McAfee and her husband, Willie, Winnie (Nash) Brailey and her husband, James, and Harry Nash and his wife, Rev. Debra; his in-laws, Mary Katherine (Kitty) Nash (Alfred’s wife) and Rev. Eva Givens Nash (Lester’s wife); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Minnie Nash; his brothers, Alfred Nash, Lester Nash, and Henry Nash; and his sisters, Virginia (Nash) Brown, Susie Nash, and Alberta (Nash) Reed.

William “Pete” Nash, Sr. will be remembered with respect for his years of service, for his devotion to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and for the enduring example of a life centered on faith. His memory remains with all who knew him.
