William “Billy” Padgett, 79, passed away February 16, 2020 in the company of his loving wife, Betty. He recently accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, and upon death joined his beloved son Mark in heaven.
Billy was born in Charlotte NC to the late Russell and Dever Padgett on Oct 21, 1940. He relocated to Atlanta GA and New Orleans LA, but eventually returned to his hometown in Charlotte.
His passions were golf, playing and watching, traveling, especially cruises. He took 21 cruises with his wife, friends and family over the years. He wanted to share his love of cruising with his beloved family so he planned and paid for his entire extended family to join them on a 7 day cruise. Words cannot describe how much fun we all had, so many great memories. However, he was most passionate about his family. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was survived by his dedicated wife of 62 yrs, Betty, his children; Jimmy Padgett and wife Beverly, Vivian Webster and husband Dwaine, Dean Padgett and wife Lisa, all of whom live in Charlotte. Billy had six grandchildren, Steve Padgett, Sheena Thomas, Justin Padgett, Shawn Webster, Devan Webster, and Nicole Padgett. He had nine great-grandchildren, Hunter, Madison, William, Hannah, Easton, Jathan, Caden, Tate, and Olivia. He had a very special relationship with his brother, Tommy Padgett, and wife Debbie. He also helped raise their nephew and niece, Craig and Sandra Crisco after the loss of their mother and was like a grandfather to Sandra's son Christopher. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Padgett on March 15, 2008 and brother Richard Abernathy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service with burial to follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
