After graduation from Tech High School in 1948, William attended King's Business College, CPCC and UNCC. Mrs. Bonnie Cone was his favorite teacher.
William served in the 121st NCB and the 4th Marines in WWII. He was in the US Navy on the St. Paul during the Korean War.
William married Gloria Hurtt with whom he had five children. His second marriage was to Mary Helen Beachum Iles.
William later retired from Exxon in 1983.
