

Harold was a graduate of Lowell High School. He served in the U.S Army with the Chemical Mortar Division in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent First Class. Harold was a charter member of the Charlotte Sertoma Club, serving on the board of directors. He was employed by Delmar Studios; Charlotte Engraving Co., where he was selected as salesman of the year in 1966. He was the founding President of Graftech Corporation and also BRS Catered Color for 25 years.
He was a longtime member of Sedgefield United Methodist Church. He was on the advisory board; Chairman of the Methodist Builders Club; Mission Chairman; Sunday school President.
A short time later, Harold's wife became ill and he cared for her as she became an invalid for five years until she died in 2006. They were married for 52 loving years. Harold established a scholarship in their name for college students at Sedgefield United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC.
He is survived by a sister, Carolyn S. Robinson, of Gastonia, and brother Kenneth E. Stephenson, of Bryson City, NC and sister-in-law, Ilene Stephenson of St. Petersburg, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Lenora Martin. brothers, Jerry M. Stephenson, St. Petersburg , FL and Charles Ray Stephenson, Cummin, GA and a sister in law, Eenid Stephenson of Bryson City, NC.
Visitation will take place at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 beginning at 2:00pm. Service will follow at 3:00pm. Interment will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sedgefield United Methodist Church, c/o Harold and Lenora Stephenson Scholarship Fund, 2830 Dorchester Place, Charlotte, NC. 28209.
