Chicago, Illinois a son of the late Robert Francis Sr. and Dorothy Ann Tolar of Birmingham, Alabama.
Bill grew up in the South East Lake section of Birmingham, Alabama with his brother, Bob Tolar, and mother, Dorothy Tolar. He graduated from Banks High School where he played on the golf team and was a skilled trombone player. Bill obtained his Bachelors in Theology from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where he met his former wife, Claudia Gill Tolar. Bill was a talented vocalist and sang in a traveling band as well as recording and producing his own album, “Always Causing Us to Triumph”.
Over the next twenty years, he dedicated his life to ministering, both to his home church of New Covenant Fellowship in Wytheville, VA, and internationally, visiting almost every continent. Throughout this time he became a proud father to three girls who became his entire world, Emily Allison Tolar-Bradley, Brittany Kristin Tolar, and Natalie Meredith Tolar. Bill and his brother Bob shared a relationship that surpassed an average sibling bond, sharing humor and support throughout their lifetime. Bill’s greatest joys in life included Alabama Football (Roll Tide!), golf, music of all genres, baseball, eating yellow squash, and doting on his three grandchildren, great-niece, and nephew. He retired to Charlotte, North Carolina where he was enjoying the mountains, cool weather, and being around family.
Bill is survived by his loving family, located in Charlotte, NC-- his daughter Emily, her husband Ryan, grandchildren, Quinn and Lincoln, and granddog Luna. In Chicago, IL--his daughter Brittany, her husband Michael, and grandson, Miles, and grand cat Olive. In Jacksonville, FL--his daughter Natalie, her partner Armin and grand cats, Messi and Ronaldo. In Marietta, GA--his beloved brother, Bob, sister-in-law, Nita, niece Sara, and great-niece/nephew Carlie and Nash. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, father, and beloved nephew, Garrison Tolar.
The service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at Noon on Friday, April 16, 2021, in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Home @ Myers Park, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery with a reception immediately following from 2:00-5:00 pm.
