William "Bill" Beresford Wait

Bill was born on September 13, 1933 in London, England. Bill was the eldest of the five children born to Gladys Lillian Marsh and William Beresford Wait and one born to Louisa Alice Clark and William Beresford Wait.

Bill is survived by his children Denise Victor (Vince), of Dallas TX, Rose Ward (Scott) of Monroe, NC, Gordon Wait (Dina), of Hailey, ID, Wendy Carriker of Matthews, NC, and Jennifer Paugh (Lance), of Mint Hill, NC. He is also survived by his sister Christine Hobson of England and Brother Stephen Wait of England, as well as grandchildren Justin, Megan, Lindsay, Melissa, Brett, Ashton, and Colby in addition to many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family in England.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Jean, of 65 years, mother Gladys Marsh Wait, stepmother Louisa Clark Wait, brother Roy Wait, sisters Eileen Selby, and Janice Hawkins.

Bill spent his early days growing up in England with his family and loved playing soccer (Football as it is called in England) with his brothers and friends. At 19, he met the love of his life, Jean, who he would later marry. Bill and Jean started a family in England but would later move to the states and complete their family there.

At the age of 72 Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. While this disease changed him, he remained happy and healthy at home with his family through his final days. His loving daughter, Wendy, with the support of her siblings, and wonderful caregiver, Rans, cared for Bill after Jean passed and up until his final breath.

The visitation will start on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 12:30pm in The Chapel at Morning Star, 12900 Idlewild Rd., Matthews, NC 28105. Memorial service will begin immediately following at 1:00pm.
