

born in Mecklenburg County on September 25, 1930 to the late Roderick Albert and Corinne
Knowles White. He was raised in Maxton, NC and was a graduate of Maxton High School.
He served his country in the US Army as a medic for two years during the Korean War. He then
attended NC State to study engineering. After leaving Raleigh he followed his college friend Ed
Elam home to Charlotte where he lived with Frank and Katherine Elam.
Bill spent most of his engineering career employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation in
Charlotte, where he worked for over 20 years. Bill enjoyed photography and was a true
audiophile, even crafting his own Electro-Voice Georgian speaker system that is still in use. He
enjoyed classic cars and used to participate in TSD road rally competitions in his beloved MG.
He is survived by his children, Kristin White Turner (Gregory) and William Christopher White
(Kimberly); grandchildren Kenzie and Connor White and Corinna Turner; sister Carolyn Jones
(Robert); “brother” Ardie Banker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Long White; his brother Robert White;
as well as his “brothers” Ed and Jim Elam.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 21 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Chapel of McEwen at
Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be
held at the graveside in Sharon Memorial Park immediately following.
