Willie "Pat" Preyer
October 27, 1937 – June 11, 2018
Willie Preyer returned to his heavenly home on June 11, 2018. Willie was born to the late Prince and Theola Preyer, Sr. in Monroeville, AL on October 27, 1937. He married Mary Gordon Grier on December 9, 1967. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1988. Willie’s brother Charles also preceded him in death at the age of 2 years old. He was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Monroeville, AL.
He served in the Army Reserves while attending Alabama A&M University in Huntsville and he was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis before returning to Alabama A&M University, to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1963. He later taught Woodshop at a local high school in Belmont, NC. Willie retired from the United States Postal Service in 2012 after 47 years as a dependable letter carrier.
Willie had several nicknames including ‘Pat’, ‘Rock’, & our favorite, which is ‘Bubba’! Willie was an avid reader of the daily newspaper, reading it from front to back. He was so dedicated that he would have his hometown paper ‘The Monroe Journal’ newspaper mailed to him weekly. He was a prankster and loved politics.
Willie is survived by his daughter Diane P. Boyd of Rock Hill, SC and his son Tristian Seegars of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Alicia Boyd and one great-grandson, Dominick Davis, Jr. He is survived by two brothers, Prince Preyer, Jr., of Huntsville, AL, and Johnny Preyer (Joyce) of Dallas, GA. He is also survived by three sisters, Ann Warren (Larry) of Huntsville, AL, Louise Mayhand of Monroeville, AL and Virgie Nettles of Daphne, AL. He is survived by his aunt Eunice Ridgill of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by Trina Young of the home. He will be missed by close cousin Melvin Preyer. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Novant Health and Mecklenburg Rehabilitation Center of Charlotte, NC for caring for Mr. Preyer during his final days.
The family would also like to express thanks to Forest Lawn West associates. A special thanks to Pastor Wilson and the entire Greater Life church family of Rock Hill, SC and everyone who has participated during our time of bereavement.
