

Zelma Mae Cochran, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on August 27, 1934, in Lenore, Kansas, Zelma was the cherished daughter of Rayfield and Alice Long. Her life was an inspiring journey of love and devotion.
Zelma married the love of her life, Walter Grant Cochran, on June 5, 1954 in Bedford, Iowa. Soon after, they moved to Evergreen, Colorado where they built a life filled with laughter and love, raising two children. Zelma was a hardworking homemaker and office manager for her husband’s plumbing business. They moved to Loveland, Colorado after retirement.
Zelma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walt, and her son, Allen. She is survived by her daughter Becky McElrath (Ron) of Concord, as well as her daughter-in-law Cheryl Cochran of Jacksonville, Florida. Her grandchildren, whom she adored, include Jason Cochran (Angela), Kenneth Cochran (Shannon), Heather Impastato (Marc), Erin Hogrefe (Joe), and Ashley McElrath. Zelma was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren.
Zelma was a woman of vibrant spirit and endless energy. She loved going for walks and going to exercise classes into her eighties. She found great joy in growing flowers and tending to her yard. She was an active member of her Senior community in Loveland, Colorado, where her outgoing and friendly nature helped her form lasting friendships. Always quick to lend a helping hand, Zelma's generosity and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus for their compassionate care during Zelma's final days. Their support and kindness brought comfort and peace to Zelma and her loved ones.
