Amy Gunhild Jones

Amy G. Jones of Charlottesville Virginia passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at the age of 96. Amy was born on July 14, 1930 in Bridgeport Connecticut where she grew up with her mother and father.

Amy obtained her nursing license, married Donald Jones, and worked as a Registered Nurse until the first of her two sons was born. Amy left nursing to concentrate on raising her sons as the absolute best mother any child could ever hope for, and she succeeded. Amy re-entered nursing when her sons were grown, and she continued to work as a nurse until she was 83 years old.

Amy had a love for life and strong devotion to family. She enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, reading, all sorts of crafts (knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, reverse glass painting, operated her own craft store named Amy’s Shoppe when she lived in Vermont), and we cannot leave out her love of slot machines at a casino, she just loved the thrill of a Jackpot.

Amy is preceded in death by her father, Gunner; mother, Hilda; husband, Donald; and grandchild Danielle.

Amy is survived by her two sons, Gary and Scott; grandchild, Nicole; great grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Malik, and Silas.

The family would like to thank the staff at Journeys Crossing Assisted Living facility and the staff of Legacy Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Amy.

A graveside service will be held at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911, on Thursday October 29, 2026 at 1:00pm, all are welcome.
